On June
15th, the U.S. Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean presented a set
of 50 children's books to the Thelma Berry Nursery School, a new pre-school in
rural, St. David's Village, Barbados. This was an opportunity to reach
out to our youngest audience and to present them with modern and classic
American children's literature. This event reflects the Embassy's strong
support for education throughout Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean and
supports the development of the country's human resources.
Representatives from the Embassy read from a selection of
the books to an excited group of 73 three and four year old children. The children loved listening to exciting renditions
of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by
Eric Carle and Caps for
Sale: A Tale of a Peddler, Some Monkeys and Their Monkey Business by Esphyr Slobodkina.
Just look
at how adorable these ambitious young readers are!
